Choosing a throw blanket

Begin with the season you are buying for. Linen breathes, which makes it right for spring and summer and for anyone who sleeps warm. Alpaca and cashmere hold heat and carry you through a Canadian winter. Wool blends sit between the two and take the most daily use.

Then consider the weight of the cloth, which tells you as much as the name of the fibre. Our Paris Baby Alpaca Throw is woven at 235 GSM and works across much of the year, while heavier weaves bring more warmth and more presence folded at the end of a bed.

Which fibre suits you

Baby alpaca gives remarkable warmth without weight, and because the fibre does not contain the same natural lanolin associated with sheep's wool, many people who find wool uncomfortable are at ease with it. Cashmere blended with superfine wool offers an airy, refined softness with the resilience to be used rather than admired. Wool and wool blends bring substance and structure. Linen softens with every wash and only improves with time.

Sizes and care

Most of our throws run 50 x 70 or 55 x 78 inches, the larger size generous enough for two people on a sofa. Alpaca, cashmere and wool throws are dry clean only. Linen throws are machine washable in cool water.
