Wool Throw Blankets & Wool Blends

Wool has kept people warm for as long as anyone has needed warmth, and it still does the job better than most things when the temperature really drops. These oversized throws are crafted in Ukraine, substantial in the hand, in plains and plaids across a range of colours.

What wool does well

Wool fibres are naturally crimped, and that gentle wave traps pockets of air between the strands. The result is an insulating layer that holds warmth close even in damp conditions, since wool can absorb a good deal of moisture before it feels wet at all. It is also naturally resistant to odour, which is why a wool blanket needs washing far less often than people expect.

The trade-off is weight. Wool feels denser in the hand than alpaca or cashmere, and for many people that heft is exactly what a winter blanket should have. If you would rather have warmth without the weight, look at baby alpaca instead.

Size and use

These are generous throws, large enough for two people on a sofa or to lie across the foot of a bed. Patterns run from plain to plaid, so they work as an accent as readily as a functional layer.

Care

Follow the care label on the individual product. Store folded rather than hung so the weave keeps its shape, and keep the throw out of prolonged direct sunlight, which fades colour.
