Bedspread, coverlet or quilt
The names overlap, and what matters is weight and coverage. A bedspread runs to the floor and covers the whole bed; a coverlet is lighter and sits above the duvet, often stopping at the sides. Both do the same two jobs: they tidy a bed in one movement, and they give you an extra layer without the bulk of a second duvet.
In practice, a coverlet is the piece most people reach for. It stays on the bed all summer as the only cover you need, then layers over a duvet from October.

Follow the care label on the individual product, and store folded rather than hung so the weave keeps its shape.
